How to convert SVG to JPG

SVG and JPG compared

SVG is a vector format written in XML. It describes shapes rather than pixels, so it stays sharp at any size. It works best for logos, icons and illustrations that must scale, and is a weaker choice for photographs, and any place that only accepts pixel images.

JPG (also written JPEG) is the oldest widely supported photo format. It uses lossy compression, which keeps photographs small but discards some detail every time the file is saved. It is the better fit for photographs, scanned pictures and any image with soft gradients, while it is less suitable for flat graphics, screenshots with text and anything that needs a transparent background.

Transparency becomes white

SVG can store transparent pixels and JPG cannot. Transparent areas are therefore filled with white during conversion. If you need to keep transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

Choosing a quality level

JPG is a lossy format, so the quality slider decides the trade-off between file size and detail. Around 80–90 is a sensible range for photographs: the difference is hard to see, while the file is far smaller than at 100. Flat graphics with sharp edges usually need a higher setting, because lossy compression tends to blur hard edges.

What to check after converting

  • Open the result at full size and look at edges, text and flat colour areas first — that is where compression artefacts appear.
  • Compare the file size against the original. If a JPG file is larger than the SVG source, lower the quality slider or reconsider the format.
  • Check that the image dimensions are unchanged. Conversion never resizes an image; use the resizer tools for that.

Format support in browsers

Saving files relies on the image encoders built into your browser. PNG, JPG and WebP are available almost everywhere. AVIF encoding is only present in some recent browsers, and the tool will tell you clearly when the format you picked cannot be written on the device you are using, rather than producing a broken file.

Does converting SVG to JPG reduce the image quality?
JPG uses lossy compression, so some detail is discarded when the file is written. At a quality setting of 80 or above the difference is usually invisible at normal viewing size. Keep the original file if you plan to edit the image again later.
Can I convert several SVG files at once?
Yes. Select or drop multiple files, run the conversion, and download the results one by one or together in a single ZIP archive.
Are the image dimensions changed during conversion?
No. The width and height stay exactly the same. If you also need a different size, use the Image Resizer after converting.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are drawn on a white background. Convert to PNG or WebP if the transparent background has to survive.
